Dear Tyler Yacht Club Members:
We have great news! An anonymous donor has very generously bestowed upon Tyler Yacht Club a gift of $75,000. This comes with the stipulation that the funds be used to protect the club's grounds with a seawall and provide a usable boat ramp. These are two important requirements necessary for the long-term viability of our club.
The deteriorated state of the current wood seawall, and the silted-in and largely unusable condition of the boat ramp have been the subject of "band-aid" repairs for the past twenty years. Making the proper repairs to this property has been fiscally out of reach for the club. This very generous donation makes it possible to make these much needed and important capital improvements.
The current plan is to remove the existing wood retaining walls and construct a seawall with more durable, modern materials. Also, an additional seawall will be constructed that will span from the north end of the north beach area to the north property corner. This will have the added benefit of recovering as much as 5,000 square feet of yacht club property that has been lost to erosion over the years. For safety and aesthetics, a 14" wide timber cap will be added to the top of all seawalls. In conjunction with this construction, the boat ramp will be dredged, and the spoils will be used as backfill behind the new seawall.
While there may be some inconvenience to the membership as the work is in progress, it is our hope that the project will be completed before the spring regatta.
These will be wonderful and beautiful improvements to the club's property. The directed donation makes it all possible.
Sincerely,
Tyler Yacht Club Board of Directors
