Tyler Yacht Club Regatta



  • 1              RULES
  • 1.1              The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
  • 1.2              Any collision between yachts will grounds for immediate disqualification of all involved.
  • 2              NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
  •               Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located on the south side of the TYC Clubhouse.
  •               Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted no later than 30 minutes following the end of the Skippers’ meeting.
  • 4              SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
        • Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole in the center of the TYC grounds near the shoreline in front of the       middle dock.  If a postponement is signaled ashore, the warning signal will be made not less than 30 minutes after flag AP is lowered.  This changes Race Signals AP.
  • 5              SCHEDULE OF RACES
        •  A Competitor’s meeting will be held at 9:00 am at the TYC Clubhouse.  The warning signal for the first race will be at 10:00 am.  Lunch will be served at the clubhouse after the first or second race.  Subsequent races will follow as soon as practicable.
  • 6              RACING AREAS
  •               The racing area will be due west of TYC on Lake Tyler.
  • 7              THE COURSE
        • Courses will be displayed on the committee boat course board.  Attachment A shows the course, course designations, the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left.  The Start/Finish line is an Obstruction (“Closed”) for all boats not starting or finishing.
  • 8              MARKS
        • Start/Finish Mark will be an orange sphere.  The windward mark will include an orange sphere and yellow flag offset mark.  The leeward end of the course will be marked by two orange spheres representing a gate that must be rounded inside to outside and left to port or starboard respectively.
  • 9              THE START

9.1       Races will be started by using rule with the warning signal made 5 minutes before the starting signal.  Rolling fleet starts will ensue at 5 min., 10 min., 15 min., etc.

9.2       The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the committee boat and the course side of the port-end starting mark.

9.3       Boats whose warning signal has not been made shall avoid the starting area during the starting sequence for other races.

9.4       A boat starting later than 5 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing.  This changes rule A4.

10        THE FINISH

The finishing line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the committee boat and the course side of the port-end finishing mark.


            The time limit will be 90 minutes for the first boat in each class to sail the course.


No protests will be accepted.  Participants are expected to race in good faith.  Any bad faith racing or misconduct, as viewed solely by race management, shall be grounds for immediate disqualification with no redress or refund of race fees.

13        SCORING

           The Low Point scores system of Appendix A of the RRS will apply.  All scores will count.  One race constitutes a regatta.


14.1  All sailors in single-handed boats shall wear a Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device from the time the boat leaves the dock until the boat returns to the dock, other than brief periods while adding or removing clothing.

14.2     A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible.


Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk.  See Rule 4, Decision to Race.  The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
